Vee-TV

Larry and I were just talking about few things regarding UK. He sent me 2 websites which I already had seen. One was about the Deaf Rave and the another was about Vee-TV. Larry said that they had stole my name(!) heh cute, I thought. I explained to him that " Vee" over there in UK meant something else beside my nickname which was a big coinidence since we, USA, also have the same slang in ASL.

Their meaning of "vee" is very similar to ours plus it also means "brillant(!)". But it is, naturally, signed differently in BSL. You make one of your hand as in 'A' and "stamp" it on your other hand while that 2nd hand is a palm faced upward. (don't let your 'A' hand linger on the palm, just stamp it once, down n up one time quickly.) Basically, it's like the sign "stamp", but with A shaped hand. There you have it.."vee!"

Now about Vee-TV, it's a tv show on England's channel 4..more like news show for the deaf by the deaf. Its pretty cool if/when you watch it. I wish it was broadcasted over here, too! They cover just about everything like any news show would. There are 3 reporters on the show; 2 girls and a guy. You can see for yourselves.. here... http://www.channel4.com/life/microsites/V/vee-tv/ Hmm, now I am thinking about talking with Ahmed to see if I could buy tapes of their series so I can see all of them for myself. I saw only one show that he showed me at his home. I want more.

I stayed at Melly and Ahmed's flat for 3 weeks. That's how I know Ahmed.. through Melly. I had heard so much about him from Melly for a long time and I, at last, got to meet him. He's a good guy and has got a great smile, too. During my visit in England, I pretty much went where they both went for deaf socializings (or is that 'socializations'?) at pubs, clubs, deaf events, n a trip. It was a big advantage for me getting into and seeing their world in the Deaf UK and PLUS being so friendly-welcomed by them. I never took it for granted and I felt lucky. From time to time at any big deaf event, while I was chatting with Ahmed, some other people would come up to him and go "*grinning ear to ear* You Ahmed? VEE-TV? oh cool!" Ahmed was real professional about it and welcomed their greets. It was just interesting to watch as it unfolded in front of my eyes, that's all.
